A prayer meeting at our church last week had me asking God, again, for guidance with Scooter. My request seems simple: help us become a team, help me to become the rider I need to be. Immediately, that still, small voice whispered, “It’s time to step up.” Whoa.
I sat with those words for a moment… I’m trying to get better at listening for God, not rushing through prayer or going through the motions. Just taking time to be silent. And it was like those words expanded across multiple areas of my life.
It’s time to step up and step in to the rider I need and want to be. It’s time to step up and step in to the role I feel He’s leading me to for my family. It’s time to step up and step in to a role of boldness with my friends. It’s time to step up and step into writing the book He’s laid on my heart. It's time to (fully) step up and step in to the food and fitness routine that will help me reach my goals. It’s time to step up and step in to the person He made me to be.
How many of us could use that phrase as encouragement as we look at our goals and chase our dreams? It’s time for us to step up. It’s time to accept the cold, hard fact that we have to put in the work; no one can do it for us. We have to be willing to get comfortable being uncomfortable. We have to be willing to do the mundane tasks required to get 1% better every single day. We have to step up and take the responsibility for ourselves in order to get where we want to go.
My mirror now reminds me every morning, “It’s time to step up.” Every day, my goal is to do just one thing better than I did yesterday. One thing, every single day.
I hope that phrase encourages you as well. I think we get so caught up in the “how” or “what next” or “where to start”. Instead, let’s focus on that first step. And then the next. And soon, you’ll be stepping up and stepping in to where you are meant to be.
